What we help with
We help with the things that make staying at home easier. Everything below is ordinary, practical, day-to-day help.
Help around the house
Keeping the house in order — cleaning, laundry, changing the bed, tidying up, taking the bins out.
Shopping and errands
The weekly shop, the chemist, the post office. With you, or for you if you would rather not go out.
Transport to appointments
Getting you to and from an appointment, waiting with you, and getting you home again.
Meal preparation
Preparing meals with you or for you, and keeping food in the house.
Company and social support
Someone to sit and talk with, go for a walk with, or take you out. For a lot of people this matters more than the housework.
Staying connected
Getting to the club, the mosque or church, the library, the shops — and staying part of what happens locally.
How it works
- You call us and tell us what you need help with.
- We visit, at a time that suits you, and go through it properly — what you want, how often, and who would be coming.
- We write it down, you agree to it, and we start.
- If it is not working, you tell us and we change it. You can stop at any time.
What it costs
Support is currently offered privately, as fee-for-service. You pay for the hours you use. There is no joining fee and no minimum term.
We will tell you the hourly rate on the phone before you commit to anything, and it will be in writing before we start.
What we do not do
Being clear about this saves everyone time.
We do not help with showering, dressing, toileting or medication. We do not provide care that a doctor or another registered practitioner would provide. If that is what you need, we are not the right service, and we would rather tell you now.
Where to go instead
My Aged Care, 1800 200 422 is the government's front door for aged care. They arrange a free assessment of what you need, and that assessment is what opens the door to government-funded support at home.
Support at Home is the Australian Government programme that pays for services in your own home — the sort of help listed on this page, and also the kinds of hands-on support we do not provide. To apply, call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or apply online at myagedcare.gov.au, and they will arrange an assessment.
We are glad to explain any of this on the phone, even if you never become a client. A small local provider gets known by being useful, not by signing everyone up.
